About Marine Lithium Batteries Australia
Meet Gabriel and Kristy and learn why they built Marine Lithium Batteries Australia, an independent guide to boat batteries, charging and marine power.
We're Gabriel and Kristy, the couple behind Marine Lithium Batteries Australia and YouSail.
Our dream is simple: buy a sailing yacht, move aboard and see where the wind takes us. Australia first. Then the Pacific. Maybe much further.
We're not there yet. We're still learning, taking courses, spending time on boats and asking a lot of questions.
One of those questions kept coming back: how do you power a life aboard?
How large should the house bank be? How much solar does an Australian cruising boat need? Can the existing alternator charge lithium safely? What happens if the BMS shuts down at sea? Which parts of an installation need professional attention? The answers were scattered across manufacturer websites, retailer listings, standards, forums, videos and Facebook groups.
We wanted one place that connected the entire system—from the appliances using energy to the solar, alternator and shore power replacing it. We couldn't find that place, so we built it.
The guide we needed ourselves
That's Marine Lithium Batteries Australia. It is the guide we wanted while planning our own future yacht: independent, Australia-specific and honest about what is known, what is only a planning estimate and what still needs proper evidence.
The site covers:
- battery sizing from measured daily energy use;
- LiFePO4, AGM and complete conversion decisions;
- solar, alternator, shore and generator charging;
- BMS behaviour, fuses, cabling, isolation and monitoring;
- Australian safety, standards and vessel requirements;
- appliances, liveaboard loads and real system configurations;
- suppliers, installers and quote comparison; and
- maintenance, troubleshooting and emergency planning.
The site does not sell batteries. It provides free calculators, technical explainers, comparison frameworks and links to primary authority sources.
Learning in public, without pretending
We're not going to pretend we've installed every system, tested every battery or sailed every Australian coast. We haven't.
Gabriel's background is research, SEO and making complicated information easier to find and use. You can read more on the Gabriel Machuret page. For the technical work, the site uses current regulator guidance, standards information, manufacturer documentation, disclosed calculations and clearly labelled evidence levels.
Product rankings are not published without product access and a test method. Australian price pages wait for real dated observations. Installer listings distinguish a public service record from verified evidence or an inspected installation. When information is missing, the site says so.
The full rules are in the editorial policy, testing methodology, price research methodology and installer verification standard.
Help build the Australian reference
If you are a boat owner with a documented lithium installation, an electrician or surveyor willing to review technical material, a supplier with current primary documents or a manufacturer prepared to provide a product for transparent testing, we'd love to hear from you.
Use the contact page or email gabriel@yousail.com.au. Corrections are welcome, especially when they include a current primary source.
Somewhere out there is the yacht that will become our home—and the electrical system that will keep it running safely.
For everything else in Australian sailing, from schools and clubs to marinas, charters and brokers, head to YouSail.
See you on the water.
